“The National” March 4 news, the United Arab Emirates Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) and the world’s second largest methanol producer Proman signed an agreement to build the UAE’s first methanol plant in the Ruwais Ta’ziz Industrial Chemicals Zone , to meet domestic and global demand.
The plant, in partnership with Adnoc, Abu Dhabi Holding Company (ADQ) and Proman, is expected to have an annual capacity of 1.8 million tonnes. Methanol is a key product in the chemical industry, mainly used to produce formaldehyde, acetic acid and other chemicals such as plastics.
Completing the plant will reduce the UAE’s reliance on imported methanol, enhance localization and increase supply chain resilience. Furthermore, the move is in line with the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology’s mission to diversify the UAE’s economy and accelerate industrial development.
