Analysis of common crane accidents and main reasons

 Cranes are special equipment. In the event of an accident, there will often be serious consequences, even causing casualties to staff. The editor summarized several common crane accidents and the causes of the accidents. I hope it will be helpful to everyone.

Definition of common crane accidents :

1. Crane loss accident : refers to the accident of personal injury and equipment damage caused by heavy objects such as hoisting and spreaders falling from high altitude during lifting operations.

2. Crane off-rope accident: The off-rope accident refers to the casualty and destruction accidents caused by the collapse of heavy objects from the tied hoisting ropes.

3. Crane decoupling accident: refers to the accident of heavy objects falling out caused by heavy objects or spreaders coming out of the hook mouth of the hook.

4. Crane rope breaking accident: the wire rope is broken due to overloading; the lifting limit switch fails and the wire rope is broken due to overwinding; the oblique hoisting and oblique pulling cause the messy rope to crush and cut the wire rope; the wire rope is caused by long-term use and lack of maintenance Breaking accidents caused by fatigue deformation, wear damage, etc. that meet or exceed the scrap standard and still use.

5. Crane hook breaking accident: The hook breaking accident refers to the accident of heavy objects falling caused by the breaking of the hook.

6. Crane squeezing accident: A squeezing accident refers to personal accidents such as squeezing, crushing, and knocking caused by the operator being squeezed between two objects during lifting operations.

7. Crane car falling accident: The hoisting wire rope was broken during the lifting operation of the elevator car, and the fixed end of the wire rope fell off, causing the occupants to fall along with the car and causing casualties.

8. Crane electric shock accidents: electric shock accidents refer to mass death accidents in which personnel engaged in lifting operations and maintenance have been shocked due to electric shocks.

9. Crane body damage accident: The body damage accident refers to the accident of the crane body breaking and overturning due to overload and instability, resulting in serious damage to the body and personal injury.

There are three main reasons for these accidents: manipulation factors, equipment factors and environmental factors .

1. Manipulating factors mainly include:

(1) Unhooking caused by improper lifting method, improper binding, scattered or swinging lifting objects hurting people;

(2) Violation of the operating regulations , such as overloading lifting, personnel working in dangerous areas, etc., causing staff casualties and equipment damage, as well as the driver’s non-compliant use of weight limiters, stoppers, brakes or non-compliant return and anchoring Accidents such as overloading, over-winding, derailment, tipping, etc. caused by certain circumstances;

(3) Collision caused by improper command and uncoordinated actions.

2. Equipment factors mainly include:

(1) Spreader failure, such as heavy objects falling due to damage to hooks, grabs, wire ropes, nets, etc.;

(2) Accidents caused by the failure of the control system of the lifting equipment or the failure of the safety device, such as the failure of the braking device and the impact and pinching of heavy objects;

(3) Accidents caused by insufficient component strength, such as the toppling of a tower crane, are caused by the tilting moment of the tower’s Ao exceeding its stable moment;

(4) Electric shock accidents caused by damage to electrical appliances;

(5) Bridge crane derailment accidents caused by rail gnawing , excessive wear, or bending.

3. Environmental factors mainly include:

(1) Derailment, collapse, tipping and other equipment accidents caused by strong natural disasters such as lightning, gusts, tornadoes, typhoons, earthquakes, etc.;

(2) Collision and squeeze accidents caused by crowded and messy venues;

(3) Collision accidents caused by insufficient brightness and obstructing the line of sight.

Most crane accidents are due to the lack of crane safety management and insufficient knowledge of crane safety. To avoid safety accidents, companies must do a good job in crane safety management and improve the safety awareness of staff.
